A focused effort towards adopting proven renewable energy technologies today will prove to be profitable for future generations of Bahamians tomorrow. The time to act is now.

Where do we start? Since not everyone can afford the cost of a complete grid-tied PV Solar System, we should be educating the public about the importance of adopting an "energy reduction plan". If every homeowner received public information on afforable energy saving products then they could make informed decisions and take steps to reduce their energy expenses.

It's a proven fact that "gren" technology as simple as L.E.D. Lighting and Heat Pump Water Heaters could save Homeowners as much as 35% on their energy bills. There is hope we can begin a new trend towards energy saving home design as well.

As State Environment Minister Phenton Neymour stated, we are indeed "highly vulnerable" to rising oil prices because our economy relies totally on fossil fuel imports - at a cost of a billion dollars last year alone. That is a sobering fact.

Lastly, it's important to note that widespread Global Media attention will be on the Bahamas during the Miss Universe Contest to be held here on August 30th. Lets raise the bar and demonstrate our committment to "greening the Bahamas." We can do it!

Austin, I could not agree with you more, unfortunately, we need the political will to move forward, and as much as we talk about Green in our Bahamaland, nothing moves forward. We have given the Ministry access to all of our resources free of charge and here we are, months later, still status quo, dragging our feet. We could and should be the Poster Child for alternative energy solutions in the region, applications that work, have proven themselves over and over in again in Europe and the US, and we are still dragging our feet. What a shame!!!

It seems all the planning and committees and talk really boils down to nothing. Here in Abaco I just mead the project leader for the new BEC power plant (The one that will run on BUNKER C) and the project will be underway in a month or two. Sadly, talk is cheap, and the government does not have the will to act on things that ought to be plain.
The Pollution and environmental damage that Bunker C will cause to our already less than pristine environment is unconscionable and I pray we get our act together sooner rather than later.
