"The future of The Bahamas depends on the development of a society that understands limits; conserves energy, water and other essential resources; and is a constituency for long term conservation and sustainability of the biodiversity of the islands.
"The natural resources of The Bahamas are our greatest asset and must be used sustainably for the benefit of future generations. The education of Bahamians and visitors is the key to long term conservation success."
From the Bahamas National Trust 2007-2012 Strategic Plan

Sustainability in the Bahamas is of the upmost importance for our future generations. The following statement from the Bahamas National Trust 2007-2012 Strategic Plan points to our focus . . ."The natural resources of The Bahamas are our greatest asset".
It also addresses our greatest shared concern, that our natural resources "must be used sustainably for the benefit of future generations."
And lastly, closes with a crystal clear conclusion that . . ." The education of Bahamians and visitors is the key to long term conservation success."
Ah Ha! . . .Education... is the key! The Merriam Webster Dictionary states, education is "the knowledge and development resulting from an educational process". I believe the "process" has started, but we still have a long way to go.
I have "big" hopes for future generations of Bahamians. With their fresh new perspectives, and outlooks, they're much more easily adaptable to new technologies, concepts and ideas.
Maybe it's true "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" or is it.. "you can teach a new dog old tricks" or is it... either way the future is bright in the Bahamas. And it'll take all of us to work together to make way for a new era of sustainability. It's a Lifestyle! And an enjoyable one at that!
